# SAIR — The Foundation for Science and AI Research

> Grounding Intelligence. Scaling Discovery.

Terence Tao, alongside Nobel, Turing, and Fields laureates, leads SAIR in advancing scientific discovery and guiding AI with scientific principles for humanity.

This is a plain-text Markdown shadow of the SAIR home page (https://sair.foundation/), provided for AI agents and crawlers. See also [llms.txt](https://sair.foundation/llms.txt) and [events.md](https://sair.foundation/events.md).

## An Engine for Scientific and AI Innovation

SAIR supports research programs and connects world-leading scientists with enterprise partners to advance the theoretical foundations of AI and unlock new frontiers in scientific discovery.

## The problem we're solving

Science and AI are evolving in isolation.

Government funding is fragmented, stalling scientific progress. Meanwhile, industry races to scale AI without the deep theoretical foundations to guide it.

SAIR gives leading scientists independence and builds bridges for enterprises to engage with the discoveries and shape the next era of AI.

Key challenges:

- Federal research budgets facing major cuts.
- Enterprises and scientists lack effective collaboration points.
- Scientists deserve the resources to chase the next great breakthroughs.

## Our Core Programs

1. **Research Network** — An ecosystem uniting Nobel, Turing, and Fields Medal laureates with pioneering scientists across disciplines.
2. **Corporate Partnership** — Membership program connecting Fortune 500 companies & AI industry leaders.
3. **Global Conferences** — Amplifying new discoveries through worldwide awards, events, and media.

## How it works

1. **Fund** — SAIR supports frontier research by funding leading scientists and providing access to advanced AI tools and compute resources.
2. **Collaborate** — A shared environment where academia and enterprise work side-by-side — accelerating discovery through real data, real experiments, and shared purpose.
3. **Ecosystem** — Breakthroughs flow back into the global ecosystem — inspiring new research, informing industry, and shaping the future of intelligent science.

## SAIR in Their Words

Leading scientists explain why SAIR exists, how it connects science and AI, and what it can unlock for discovery:

- **Terence Tao: Why I Co-Founded SAIR** — Terence Tao explains why he co-founded SAIR and how science and AI can shape the next era of discovery.
- **SAIR: Building the Global Community for Science x AI**
- **Barry Barish on AI, Physics, and Scientific Discovery** — Barry Barish reflects on how AI may transform scientific discovery, from physics to the broader research ecosystem.

## Competitions

- **[Inverse Galois Problem (IGP24)](https://competition.sair.foundation/competitions/igp24)** — A mathematical discovery challenge: expand the known map of degree-24 equations and their hidden symmetries.
- **[Modular Arithmetic Challenge](https://competition.sair.foundation/competitions/modular-arithmetic-challenge)** — Can a neural network learn to compute (a × b) mod p for integers hundreds of digits long? An open, community-driven probe of where exact machine reasoning breaks down.
- **[Mathematics Distillation Challenge — Equational Theories (Stage 1)](https://competition.sair.foundation/competitions/mathematics-distillation-challenge-equational-theories-stage1)** — Submit a single knowledge prompt that guides an LLM to decide whether one equation implies another. The prompt must include placeholders for Equation 1 and Equation 2 so each evaluation problem can be inserted automatically.
- **[Mathematics Distillation Challenge — Equational Theories (Stage 2)](https://competition.sair.foundation/competitions/mathematics-distillation-challenge-equational-theories-stage2)** — Submit a solver that produces machine-verified Lean 4 certificates for equational reasoning tasks.
